Ever have those days that you just wish we could go back to basics? Like before we walked with our heads in our phones, mindlessly dumped lettuce out of bags, and had to actually speak to a shop owner to buy ANYTHING? Emily Mopsik, through the IG name of “Slice of Saratoga” has made a commitment to going back to basics for herself and her family. And lucky for us, OUR families are benefitting from it too.

SHARING HER “SLICE” (LOVE) OF LOCAL

In an effort to share her LOVE OF LOCAL, Emily began documenting how she and her daughter make the most of their lives in Saratoga Springs by spending time in their small, shared urban farm and supporting local vendors. They then transform locally sourced flowers, fruits and veggies into weekly product offerings that we can all enjoy.

In addition to a few tried-and-true favorites, Emily gets tons of inspo for her new product “drops” from favorite food and lifestyle bloggers. She loves to experiment with new recipes and seasonal local harvest. Her quality assurance team usually consists of a lucky set of friends and family who get to sample the test specimens. If she gets the thumbs up (which she usually does), a small batch of baked goods or floral arrangements will be available for order and pick up the following week.

In addition to sourcing from her small shared urban farm just around the block, Emily frequents the Spa City Farmer’s Market and Four Seasons for ingredients. And although there have been plenty of recipes containing zucchini, blueberries, and many other fruits of our local farms, it’s the Almost Famous Chocolate Cake which continues to be the customer favorite. Big surprise.

HOW TO ORDER A “SLICE”

When available, A Slice of Saratoga shares info on the weekly product “drops” on Mondays on their Instagram page. You are then able to place the order through a link in bio. Payment is done through Venmo, and you can pick up the goods from her home in downtown Saratoga Friday AM. Just in time for weekend company.

But the work doesn’t stop there. In addition to this side-hustle and parenting her angelic daughter, Emily works as a second grade teacher at the local Caroline Elementary school. When I asked how she finds time for all this, she said quite confidently, “It’s a personal challenge that is well worth it. I am always pushing myself to do more, in every aspect of my life. I want my daughter to be raised in Saratoga growing her own food, and baking and cooking with me and her father. We’re all so lucky.”

I know her type, and I have confidence that she is NOT stopping at just one slice.
